Teachers at the Butler Area School District have a new contract.
At their meeting Monday night, the Butler School Board agreed to the three year deal by a vote of 7-2. Board members Bill Halle and Jim Keffalas voted against the proposal.
The deal goes into effect retroactively beginning July 1st 2015 and continuing through June 30th 2018. The Butler Education Association approved the deal in a vote earlier in the day on Monday.
The new agreement includes a 3% salary increase in each of the three years of the deal. The deal also increases monthly health care premiums for teachers by $20 per month in the current year and deductibles double between years two and three. The district anticipates saving $1 million over the three years through the health care changes.
Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley believes the contract to be fair for both the district and teachers given the difficult financial times.
