Today is Veterans Day.
Always celebrated on the 11th day of the 11th month, there are several activities going on in Butler County to honor those who have served in the armed forces.
Keeping with tradition, Butler’s annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10:40 a.m. in downtown Butler at the bottom of North Main Street Hill at the intersection of Main and Penn streets and travel south. The parade will pause at exactly 11 a.m. for a moment of silence to honor the signing of the armistice that ended World War I.
Before today’s parade, a program will be held at 9 a.m. at VA Butler Healthcare to honor the veterans who are not able to make it out to celebrate.
Then on Saturday afternoon, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora to honor the 2015 Veteran of the Year, Robert Ripper of Fairview Township. He served in the army during the Vietnam War.
