We need to amend a story we told you earlier this week concerning volunteering with the IRS this upcoming tax season.
The IRS is indeed currently searching for volunteers for their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (known as VITA), which offers free federal income tax prep for individuals and families who meet certain income requirements.
We told you if you are interested in helping out, to contact the IRS through their website, IRS.gov. Instead, it would be more efficient for interested volunteers to contact our local VITA office directly.
You can do that by contacting Jean Bowen at the Center for Community Resources (724-431-3732) or by emailing [email protected]. You can also dial 211 and tell them you would like to volunteer for VITA.
The free program has grown substantially over the years in both Butler and Armstrong counties and volunteers are desperately needed.
As far as who can take advantage of VITA- it’s for individuals and families who make less than $53,000 per year.
