Every junior at Butler School District will participate in an interview this week to give them a taste of what the real-world might look like.
The students will be meeting with various industry professionals from the community depending on their interests and potential career paths.
The effort was spearheaded by the district’s Guidance Department and specifically Shannon McGraw, who is the “School to Career and College Tech Prep Coordinator.”
Students were tasked with creating a resume and giving serious thought to a potential career. Each student was carefully matched to a professional who works in a field that is relevant to the student’s career path.
“We’re just trying to match the kids with a field that they’re interested in and give them the opportunity to share their plan to pursue a career in that field, with someone who is in the field,” McGraw said in an interview. “If they want to be an attorney, they will be sitting with an attorney. We have some students interested in being a funeral director…they are sitting down this week with a local funeral director.”
Butler Radio’s own Tyler Friel will be conducting some of the interviews with students on Wednesday at the Butler Senior High School. Interviews will continue through Friday.
In addition to interview experience, some students have been given job shadow experiences, volunteer experiences…and some were hired for part-time work and internships.
