When we head to the polls next week we’ll be voting the “traditional” way, but could that change in the future?
A proposal in the state legislature seeks to allow curbside voting in Pennsylvania.
Senator Tom Killion (from eastern PA) says curbside voting could help to address a lack of handicapped-accessible polling places.
“It’s hard to find voting places that are handicapped-accessible,” Killion said. “What this allows folks to do is pull up to the curb- a voting official will come out- and they can cast their ballot right at curbside.”
But, Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar says this might not work with federal law, which requires there to be handicapped-accessible polling places.
“The United States Department of Justice says curbside voting can’t take the place of having accessible voting places,” she said. “But it can be an additional way to help.”
Pennsylvania’s primary election is set for Tuesday, May 21.
