Butler County will look for an alternative funding source to aid its human services department which is struggling in the midst of the state’s months-long budget impasse.
The Butler County Commissioners gave the go-ahead this week to seek a line of credit. The money would assist the outside contractors who provide services to the county’s human services clients. Officials say the county contracts out about 90 percent of its services, many of those contracts are with small companies who do not have the resources to fund themselves.
Commissioner Jim Eckstein said the county could end up needing up to $2 million per month.
The state should have had a budget in place July 1. All three county commissioners urged residents to contact Governor Tom Wolf’s office and the offices of their state legislators to urge them to come to an agreement.
