Butler City Council is considering the possibility of selling police services to areas currently without traffic enforcement.
At Tuesday’s Butler City Council agenda-setting meeting, Mayor Tom Donaldson proposed entering into formal discussions with four neighboring municipalities.
The selling of traffic patrol services in 10-hour per week blocks for $25,000 per year would allow the city to defray costs they are already paying to the force. State police would continue to handle calls that came in for other incidents in areas outside the city.
While stressing that the first priority of officers would remain the city and any agreement would include a mutual exit clause, Donaldson believes that this service could lead to a regional police department.
