Slippery Rock University sophomore defensive lineman Marcus Martin has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Player of the week. Martin helped lead The Rock to a 35-24 victory in Erie Saturday. Martin was in the backfield all day at Mercyhurst and finished the game with 10 total tackles, including eight solo stops, three solo tackles for loss, and two solo sacks. Martin was credited with five additional QB hurries and his pressure led to two of Mercyhurst’s three thrown interceptions on the day.
The Rock will host IUP this Saturday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The Crimson Hawks are tied with Clarion for the PSAC-West lead.
Slippery Rock University volleyball head coachLaurie Lokash recorded her 600th win Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Cheyney, as The Rock went 1-1 on the first day of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action held at Kutztown University. Lokash becomes the 22nd NCAA Division II coach to reach the 600-win milestone, while only 10 of those are still active in DII coaching. Her 600-494 record in her 32nd years at the helm of the Rock Volleyball program makes her the winningest coach in PSAC history.
