There are rumors swirling that Butler’s own U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly may run for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The position opened up after Rep. John Boehner of Ohio announced he would step down and resign from Congress at the end of the month. Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California was thought to be the next in line for the job, but dropped out last week shortly before a vote was to take place to select him as the GOP nominee.
Kelly has reportedly said he has been approached by people in Congress telling him he should consider a run but says he’ll only consider if Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan declines to run.
