On Wednesday, NASCAR unveiled the basic rules package it will use for the 2016 Sprint Cup Series … featuring components that will provide reduced downforce, more off-throttle time for drivers and decreased corner speeds. Goodyear will develop tires to complement the new package – which is similar to what was run in races at Kentucky Speedway and Darlington Raceway earlier this season. In each case, this year’s race with the so-called “low-downforce” package included more lead changes than the 2014 race … In addition to the base package announced yesterday, NASCAR said each track will continue to tailor rules to create the best racing for each track length, layout and surface.
NASCAR haulers will roll into Kansas Speedway today as preparations continue for the weekend’s Sprint Cup/X-FINITY Series doubleheader. The first on-track action will come with opening Cup Series practice on Friday at 1pm.
