Eight people were taken to local hospitals Wednesday following a chain-reaction crash on Route 422 in Lawrence County.
The accident- involving nine vehicles including a New Castle Area Transit bus- happened around 5 p.m. just over the Butler County line at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388 in Slippery Rock Township, near the Sheetz.
The crash sent vehicles airborne, two landing upside down on guardrails. It appeared the cause of the crash was a tractor trailer that slammed into the back of a pickup truck.
Three people were initially listed in critical condition. The road was shut down until nearly midnight as crews cleared the scene and continued to investigate.
