There have been 100 more confirmed cases of the flu in the last week here in Butler County alone.
Now, according to the latest data from the Pennsylvania Health Department, there have been 600 confirmed cases so far. There have been 35,000 cases statewide.
Dr. John Love, the Director of Infectious Disease Department at Butler Memorial Hopsital, says this disease remains deadly.
“Influenza remains a potentially life-threatening infection,” he said in an interview with Butler Radio. “People young and old are most at-risk, but young, healthy people have died from the flu so far this season.”
Some people have trouble determining if they have the flu or something else. Dr. Love says the flu comes on quick.
“A lot of patients will describe feeling like they’ve been hit by a truck,” he said. “It often comes on so quickly that patients can pinpoint the exact time of the day they started feeling sick. That is the flu.”
Doctors say it’s still too not late to get the flu shot.
