We’re learning more about how a new congressional district map issued Monday by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will affect Butler County.
Five voting precincts in the county have been split, according to officials.
The affected precincts are in Cranberry and Jefferson townships. In Cranberry, four of the nine precincts (East II, East III, West I and West II) were split between the 16th and 17th districts. In Jefferson, one of its two precincts is split between the 15th and 16th district.
In the Cranberry Township West I voting precinct, nine residents are in the new 17th district and 3,311 voters are in the 16th district. In Cranberry Township East III, 2,713 residents fall into the 17th district and 310 residents fall into the 16th district.
Butler County Bureau of Elections Director Shari Brewer said she is still waiting for the Pennsylvania Department of State to release more information about who lives in what district soon.
“We will figure it out,” Brewer said in an interview Wednesday.
Polling places will not change, meaning residents should still go to the same place to vote as they did last year. The primary election is set for Tuesday, May 15.
