Several local people have been charged in connection with a retail theft operation earlier this summer.
According to Butler Township Police, between July 17 and July 23, four individuals entered Walmart, took possession of store merchandise, and returned the merchandise for gift cards.
Those individuals have been identified as 29-year-old Charles Smouse of Butler, 27-year-old Charles Coy of Butler, 28-year-old Robert Schafer of Claysville and 28-year-old Tasha Lutz of Butler.
As a result of nearly $2,000 taken during six different incidents, the defendants are facing charges including theft by deception, conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
