Two teenagers remain on the run after escaping from a Butler County juvenile detention center on Sunday.
Pennsylvania State Police at the Butler Barracks say the two Summit Academy students jumped out of a first-floor window about 7:30 p.m. and fled on Route 356.
The students that escaped were two boys- a 17-year-old black male from Philadelphia and a 16-year-old white male from Indiana, Pennsylvania.
Troopers searched the area for two hours but couldn’t find them. The boys have been entered into the National Crime Information Center as runaways.
The Summit Township community was notified of the escape just before 8 p.m. Sunday night and reminded to lock their doors and vehicles, and not to interact with the students.
Summit Academy is a private, residential program for boys and young men ages 14 to 19 who have committed juvenile and adult criminal offenses.
It’s unclear what these two boys were in Summit Academy for, but State Police Cpl. Tim Morando said the school has been housing students who have committed “a lot more of the bigger crimes,” including auto theft and drug charges.
