Two people were rescued on Wednesday night after their boat overturned on the Slippery Rock Creek in Butler County.
Chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department Ryan Hanchosky said the pair put in a canoe and kayak at Rock Falls.
“On their way down, one of the gentleman sunk their canoe,” Hanchosky said. “They became pretty exhausted, and disorientated, when the storm hit and it got dark.”
Firefighters and other first responders were called to the creek just before 10 p.m.
Hanchosky said the two were able to call a family member for help.
“We staged units throughout the bridges on the creek. Luckily, they came floating down to us just as we were getting ready to put boats in the water,” he said.
Both people were helped to shore. They were tired, but not hurt, according to Hanchosky.
