U.S. Congressional candidate Susan Boser was at the Vagabond Center in Lyndora on Wednesday evening for a town hall.
The policy teacher from IUP says she is running for office to give people a choice and to tackle tough issues, like income inequality.
“All of the middle class and the working class…their wealth and their income has gone down steadily since the early 1980s and it doesn’t have to be this way,” she said.
Boser- a Democrat- is facing incumbent Republican Glenn Thompson in the 15th Congressional District- which encompasses much of eastern Butler County including Buffalo, Oakland and Summit Townships, as well as Chicora, Bruin and Petrolia boroughs.
Boser’s priorities include jobs that pay a living wage, policies that support small business, making the most of energy resources within the district, and infrastructure improvements. She feels a new group of representatives will be able to join with her to meet those challenges.
“I believe there is going to be a whole new crop of people coming in- particularly from the rural areas- and I think we work together. We collaborate with each other, regardless of whether we’re Democrats or Republicans, and we work together to meet the needs of our districts,” she said.
Butler County had previously all been included under the 3rd Congressional District, which is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler. Under the new congressional map, the county is split into three different districts.
