Joe Musgrove started the game for the Pirates. He allowed eight hits and three earned runs over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Pirates host Baltimore today at 1:05pm. The game will be televised on AT&T SportsNet.
Pirates catcher Elias Diaz has returned to full baseball activities. He has been sidelined with a virus, and will not begin the season with the team.
The Major League Baseball season opened Wednesday in Japan with Seattle defeating Oakland 9-7. The game may have been the final start for outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, who began his career in Japan in 1992 at the age of 18. The 45-year old star has accumulated 4,367 hits between Japan and the United States.
