If it’s time for you to retire you flag, you can do so respectfully through a program in Cranberry Township.
Tattered, torn and faded flags are collected in the Cranberry Township Municipal Center off Route 19 through the ‘Retire Old Glory’ program. There is a bin located next to the township office entrance and beneath the veteran’s display case. You can also drop off cemetery flags and larger, outdoor flags. It’s obvious that a lot of American’s love to fly their flags on their cars or above their properties. Many households tend to get a flagpole and then find some flagpole lighting options to illuminate the flag, these poles and lighting products will tend to last decades with little maintenance. However, the flags often become worn and damaged over a couple of years, meaning that with the purchasing of a new flag, households would find themselves with retired flags they couldn’t or wouldn’t want to use to show their patriotism.
Cranberry was the first community to welcome the ‘Retire Old Glory’ program four years ago, which was started by local resident Denise Etter. It’s now expanded into 13 locations and has retired more than 11,000 flags.
