A letter has been sent to the current Butler Area School Board and administration requesting that the approved consolidation plan be put on hold.
In a letter from 2 current members and 4 incoming members dated May 24th and provided to our newsroom today the current board is described as a “lame duck” board and the actions to implement the current consolidation plan may be “legally infirm”.
The letter was signed by current members John Conrad and Bill Halle, along with Nina Teff, Jennifer Cummings, Leland Clark, and Suzie Hammonds-Bradrick who will take office in December after being elected to both ballots in the May 19th primary election.
The consolidation plan was passed last month by a 7-2 margin but the letter says that the new board will have a majority opposed to the decision and “we will reverse aspects of it”. By putting the plan on hold, the signers of the letter hope to save the board “unnecessary costs”.
In a May 28th reply to the letter, Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley stated that the next board meeting is scheduled for June 8th beginning at 5:30 p.m. It is expected that the issue of the letter will be discussed at that time.
